Ten Questions with a Creator: Tina Maria Harvey

1)  Your work spans both the worlds of fictional and non-fiction? Can you tell us something about Coffee and Cards, your tarot planner and workbook?

It does! The Coffee and Cards Tarot workbook is designed to help a beginner learn how to read tarot cards or help an old pro break in a new deck. It’s really ideal for daily tarot practice. The Pagan Planner is the planner I’ve always wanted but could never find. It’s both a planner and includes my most used reference lists for building altars and spell jars.

2) What was it that attracted you to tarot?

In my early teen years of exploring paganism I studied crystals and herbs and candles, tarot is just really the one that resonated with me the most.

3) In addition to Coffee and Cards, you have also tackled the world of Paranormal Fantasy. Can you tell us something about The Pantheon?

I’m a pretty big fan of fantasy novels in general. Anne Rice and Neil Gaiman are huge inspirations of mine. With The Pantheon I wanted to write something different. Something full of action and adventure with a strong female lead that wasn’t the perfect heroine, but a flawed morally gray character. Someone I think most people could relate to.

4) Where did you draw your inspiration for this fantastic book?

I’ve been a fan of global myths and lore my entire life. I wanted to see what would happen if I took creatures of myths and put them in our world today. How would Hecate or Oshun react to a modern capitalist society?

5) Please tell us about your writer’s journey. Did you always want to be a writer? How did you find your way to the craft?

I was a very early reader and I think from the time I started reading stories I would create continuing story lines to the universes I loved in my head. It became harder to be creative once I had kids, I was just so busy all the time. But now that they are older my writing time is my idea of self care. It’s something I truly love doing.

6) As a youngster, who were some of your favorite authors? Did your taste change or evolve as you grew into adulthood?

Honestly some of my favorites when I was a child and now my comfort reads and books I enjoy sharing with my kids. I was a huge fan of Christopher Pike and R.L. Stine and Anne M. Martin.

7) You are very active on Tik Tok. How did you find your way there? What advantages do you see in that platform over some of the others available?

I knew in my journey as a writer I’d have to really hit the ground running to market my book and find my crowd. I was a foster kid. I’ve been on my own since I was 15. I knew I wouldn’t have family support and as a single income family investing in my book is limited. I had to take advantage of every free venue I could! I’ve absolutely had the best luck on Tiktok. The Booktok community there is really special and so giving with their advice and experience.

8) What can we expect next from you?

This summer I’m releasing a Shadow work through Tarot book and book two of The Pantheon comes out later this year. I also have a why choose fantasy available on Kindle Vella now and release monthly chapters there.

9) What are you reading right now?

I just finished Angels Before Man and I’m still processing it! It was a pretty incredible book but so heavy. It took me quite a while to read.

10) If you could ask one person in history a single question, what would it be and to whom?

I’d love to talk to the builders of the Great Pyramid in Egypt and ask how they did it!
